Mad Mel and her menagerie of animal puppets explore the joys of cultural diversity and the wonders of history. Her show "Swing Along With Mel" is highly audience-interactive and is adaptable to all age groups. She creates a safe, fun and exciting atmosphere in which her puppet pals sing in English (with Italian, Russian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Yiddish available as optional treats).

You can chose for Mad Mel to incorporate as much, or as little of the following in her show:

1.   Historical inventions and events:
      The show is broken down into seven time periods:

I       1900-1914   Factory Prosperity
II      1914-1918   World War I
III     1918-1929   Prosperity/Roaring '20's
IV     1929-1934   Stock Market Crash/Great Depression
V      1934-1941   Recovery/Country Rebuilds
VI     1941-1945   World War II
VII    1945-1954   Post-War Prosperity.

It traces the evolution of American music as its rhythms, melodies and lyrics are affected by inventions, world changes and historical events. {An invention or historical occurence is discussed followed by a song (sung either by Mad Mel or one of her 30 large animal puppets) from this time period - MAKING LEARNING HISTORY FUN!}

2.   Cultural diversity:

Songs sung in various languages encourage children to look beyond a person's outer-shell and see each other's true character, embrace other cultures, and investigate their own family heritage. A love-duet/skit between a wolf and a lamb serves to demonstrate the enriching possibilities of a cross-cultural connection.

3.   Environmental awareness:

The necessity of protecting the environment is supported by the animals she uses in her show.

4.   Music styles:

Any song can be arranged in different styles, i.e. jazz, rock, etc., making it fun for the older kids.

5.   Emotional development:

Emotional challenges faced by each age group are touched upon, such as life direction and peer interaction. The importance of pride in ones own unique personality and creativity is stressed. Learning from and respecting others while nurturing oneself is emphasized. The concept of self-empowerment is promoted by sharing the belief that everyone has the ability to accomplish their goals, make their dreams come true, and shape their life so they will be happy and fulfilled.

Mad Mel encourages post-show discussions with peers and parents on the importance of freedom, compassion, communication and education. She promotes the use of books and reference materials.

"Swing Along With Mel" is Adaptable to All Age Groups and can be performed for Holiday Parties, Special Events, Hospitals, Schools, Birthday Parties, Theatres and Libraries.
